A horse will run well on only one surface, it is not often you will find an animal capable of running well on both types of tracks. Next watch for their workouts, if an animal shows they agile and able during workout, they are probably going to be a beauty to watch on a track.
A few other conditions to watch for are layoffs, and medical changes. For example a horse who has not run in over a month is on layoff, and will probably not run well in their next race, after a layoff. Medications, come into play as well, the horse’s health is vital to their running abilities. Several physical, and psychological things account for an animal’s skills in racings. If a horse is ridden by a new rider, or jockey, they can sometimes weigh more, or less than a previous rider. What happens then? The horse has more weight to carry and runs slower, due to stress. Once you take all these different aspects into account, you have knowledge, which is power. Power to win big!
